Building An LED-Profi Set In The Test

In the following I will describe how to install an LED spotlight set and what special features you have to consider.

The special feature of this set is that both the LED driver from TCI as well as the 3 LED spotlights fit through conventional ceiling holes with a diameter of 68mm and thus no additional drilling is necessary, which greatly simplifies the installation.

After all components are unpacked, we start. You need a cross-slotted screwdriver to build.

We start with the correct wiring of the LED driver: Screw the two plastic covers on the right and left and connect the outer conductor and the neutral conductor on the left side and the supplied black (-) and red (+) cables on the right side. Make sure that the two cables do not touch each other. ATTENTION: Observe the data sheet of the driver!

Now to the spotlights: The supplied red-black cable already has connection terminals, which are now connected to those of the LED spotlights. These must only be put together, while they hear a faint click.

In this picture, you can see that the outer conductor and neutral conductor are visible, this is only for illustrative purposes! Never operate in this condition, only the insulation of the cable should be visible, please insulate the insulated wires inside the plastic cover.

Now we come to the setting of the LED converter: On the back and in the datasheet, you can see which dipswitches must be activated, so that the driver supplies the desired constant current.

In this example, the professional LED spotlights are to be supplied with a constant storm of 700mA. However, the operation is also possible with 750mA without any reservations. The driver used has the setting 700mA, if the switches 1 and 2 are set to ON, so we push the two small white switches in our example to the left.

Lastly, we are concerned with the desired dimming function.

There are 2 possibilities, the first is more practical and requires less effort: The “normal” (by means of phase section) dimming. It has the advantage that no additional cable has to be laid and is thus easier to realize.However, there are also some disadvantages, because it is not possible to dim as far as in the second possibility and in certain operating conditions, a hum of the driver is heard, as he is constantly working at the limit due to the phase dimming.

The second option is the push button function. The advantages of this are that all operating conditions operate silently and the dimming setting is retained after switching the unit off and on. Furthermore, the driver automatically stops at the minimum or maximum, even if the button is held longer. A disadvantage occurs during the installation. A further cable is necessary that must be connected to the driver and the light switch.

If you have decided on a type of dimming function, the datasheet provides information on whether the jumper must be removed or not.
